Rossland Summit School

1st Place - Elementary School with 301-450 Students

Rossland Summit School Drama students have been fundraising for their eight-day March, 2017 trip to New York City for the past five months.

We were fortunate to learn about the Encorp Return It School.  Entering this contest motivated our group to work hard to collect as many returnable beverage containers as we possibly could before the deadline.

Thetis Island Elementary students

We continually advertised through social media, school newsletters, posters, and word-of-mouth and received tremendous community support as residents donated their refundable drink containers to our recycle bin outside of the school.  Students and an adult supervisor met at least once a week to sort and return these bottles/cans to the Bottle Depot.  In addition, we had community bottle drives on April 23rd and May 29th, which were very successful.

Our group has been participating in other fundraising efforts throughout the year to help reduce our fees for the New York trip, including school popcorn days, organizing and hosting school drama/variety shows, and bake sales.  The Rossland Summit School community is always supportive of all student groups’ fundraising efforts for various school-related activities.

Thank you, Encorp Pacific (Canada) for hosting this contest and allowing the Rossland Summit School Drama students to raise funds to help offset their New York City trip fees.

“The Drama trip to New York is an amazing opportunity for students from rural BC to be able to immerse themselves in a cultural experience. They are all terribly excited at the prospect of seeing not only Broadway musicals but also one of the most multicultural cities in the world.” ~ Deanne (parent)

“We entered this contest to help fund a trip to New York (Spring 2017). Winning the prize money could help us out immensely as many of our students are not able to pay the full price. We've been doing bottle sorting for most of this year along with other fundraising campaigns. All of our students have shown diligence and dedication to go to New York. This is an amazing opportunity to bring back an incredible culture to our small town and I'd like to thank Encorp personally for helping make this dream a reality.” ~ Molly

“I really want to win the Return-It competition to help our Drama club go to New York next year. We have been working hard to raise money. I'm looking forward to traveling with my friends and seeing some great shows while we are there.” ~ Aidan
